This video from the 2021 symposium features Dr. Marcel Maya, Professor & Co-chair of the Department of Imaging at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Maya presented this talk on “Current SIH Diagnostic Imaging (With Leak Classification)” at the Fourth Cedars-Sinai Intracranial Hypotension Symposium, hosted by Cedars-Sinai in partnership with Spinal CSF Leak Foundation in Los Angeles, CA, on October 2, 2021.

This year’s symposium was virtual, and brought together clinicians and researchers to share the latest advances in the diagnostic evaluation and treatment of intracranial hypotension. Speakers included representatives from a range of subspecialties, including anesthesiology, neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology. The topics covered the variety of clinical presentations, differential diagnoses, complications, cranial and spinal imaging, percutaneous interventions, surgical approaches, anatomy and pathophysiology of the various leak types, and tailored imaging and treatment approaches. The symposium concluded with a panel discussion about evidence gaps, research priorities, and potential opportunities for collaborative research.

Throughout the day, the attendees rated their top research priorities and concerns via an online poll. The results of the poll were then revealed during the final presentation of the day, a research panel discussion featuring many of the presenters from the symposium, The top five concerns of the attendees who answered the poll centered around diagnosis, treatment outcomes, and risk factors. Foundation medical advisory board members Dr. Wouter Schievink, Dr. Connie Deline, Dr. Abhay Moghekar, Dr. Jill Rau, Dr. Marcel Maya, Dr. Timothy Amrhein, and Dr. Peter Kranz discussed these concerns, as well as other research gaps and priorities to keep in mind as we look to the future of spinal CSF leak research.

Thanks to all who attended the 4th Cedars-Sinai Intracranial Hypotension Symposium. We look forward to next year’s event!
