The 2021 4th Annual Intracranial Hypotension Symposium, which took place on October 2, was a fantastic day of all-virtual presentations and discussions. We were thrilled to have so many clinicians and researchers sharing the latest advances in the diagnostic evaluation and treatment of spinal CSF leak. Speakers from subspecialties including anesthesiology, neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology spoke on topics from the variety of clinical presentations, to differential diagnoses, percutaneous interventions, surgical approaches, and more. The day concluded with a panel discussion about evidence gaps, research priorities, and potential opportunities for collaborative research.
Throughout the day, attendees rated their top research priorities and concerns. During the research panel discussion, the results of the poll were revealed. As seen in in the image below, the top five concerns of the attendees who answered the poll centered around diagnosis, treatment outcomes, and risk factors. Foundation medical advisory board members Dr. Wouter Schievink, Dr. Connie Deline, Dr. Abhay Moghekar, Dr. Jill Rau, Dr. Marcel Maya, Dr. Timothy Amrhein, and Dr. Peter Kranz discussed these concerns and other research gaps and priorities as we look to the future of spinal CSF leak research.
Symposium attendees have access to all of the recorded presentations for the next several months. After that, we will share them here as part of our video library.
Thanks to all who attended this year’s symposium, and we look forward to next year’s event!
