Ann Fields shared her thoughts with us about how she plans to participate in this year’s #duradash. Visit her page to see updates on her progress and give your support!

Ann, who is 58, had a spontaneous spinal CSF leak that was brought on by sneezing. After several years, two surgeries, and countless epidural blood patches, her spinal CSF leak was finally resolved, but she continues to live with rebound intracranial hypertension.

What are you doing for #duradash?

I will be completing my regular exercise regimen with The Women’s Fitness Connection. The instructors with this group have knowledge of my medical history and the current challenges I have with rebound high pressure, and they work with me to help me modify everything from Zumba to yoga! I will be inviting the members of this group to join team Courage Strength Faith! Oh, and I’ll be walking my little dog Daisy every day! I realize how fortunate I am to be upright and active!

What to you want people to know about spinal CSF leak?

I want people to know that I am one of the lucky ones who was able to finally seal an elusive spontaneous dural tear. There are people JUST LIKE ME who wait years or decades for a correct diagnosis and treatment. Spinal CSF leaks are devastating and so is the aftermath.

What research on spinal CSF leak do you hope to see in future?

I do hope there is more research on rebound high pressure, after a spinal CSF leak is sealed. More importantly, more research on diagnosis and treatment of spinal CSF leaks is critical! New learning and information needs to be in the hands of ALL medical professionals!!!
