The holidays can be hard when you're hurting.

If you’re living with spinal CSF leak and feeling overwhelmed by the holidays, here are some tips to help you navigate the season.

Be gentle with yourself.

It’s important to remember that it’s okay to take things at your own pace and to prioritize your own well-being. Try not to push yourself too hard or feel guilty if you say no to certain activities.

Be flexible with traditions.

If there are certain holiday activities or traditions that are no longer feasible or enjoyable for you due to your illness, it’s okay to do them differently—or let them go.

Adapt the traditions you love or make new traditions.

Adapt the holiday traditions you love most to accommodate you and the needs you have right now—or create new traditions based on what you’re able to tolerate.

Communicate your needs.

Let your loved ones know what’s challenging for you and what you would find helpful or meaningful from them.

Seek support.

If the holiday season is particularly difficult, don’t be afraid to seek support from loved ones, a therapist, or a support group.

Embrace what’s possible for you.

Remember that there’s no wrong way to experience the holidays.

Finally, take comfort in knowing you’re not alone.

Wishing you all the best this holiday season,

Your friends at the Spinal CSF Leak Foundation
